Kara R. Jones, Ph.D. -

Dr.
Jones received her Ph.D. in 2005 in Pharmacology and Toxicology from
the Medical College of Virginia campus of Virginia Commonwealth University,
Richmond, Virginia. Prior research involved characterizing the role
of DNA damage repair, senescence, and apoptosis in the response of
breast tumor cells to ionizing radiation. She received a Predoctoral
Traineeship Award from the Department of Defense Breast Cancer Research
Program and a Minority Graduate Assistant Supplement Award from the
National Cancer Institute/National Institutes of Health. Dr. Jones
joined the Chemical Carcinogenesis Section in the Laboratory of Experimental
Carcinogenesis as a postdoctoral fellow in 2005. Her current research
project involves investigating the mechanisms of mammary cell transformation
and breast carcinogenesis by PhIP, a heterocyclic amine in the human
diet.
